ACADEMIC
PROFILE
The Academic Profile is
a comprehensive measure of academic skills acquired through undergraduate
general education courses. This test measures college-level reading, college-level
writing, mathematics and critical thinking in the context of materials from
the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
All Wayne College students take the Academic Profile test as incoming first-year
students; they take the test again on completion of 36 hours at the College.
This pre- and post-test strategy serves as a valid external indicator of academic
achievement. According to AP findings collected in the Spring of 2000, Wayne
College student performance ranks with that of comparable students nationwide.
The mean incoming score for students taking the AP instrument at Wayne is 439.5
(500 scale) compared to 434.8 at other associate of arts institutions. On exit
examination the mean score for Wayne College students (n=76) is 442.9; at comparable
institutions the score is 442.6. This indicates not only statistical improvement
but also results that are consistent with normative values for associate of
arts students across the country.
