Biography:
Dr. Jack (John P.) Kristofco was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio
where he attended Benedictine High School. He began his professional
career as the Assistant to the Director of the Communications Learning
Center at the Metro Campus of Cuyahoga Community College. From
there he went to Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio;
in his twenty years there he was a faculty member, division chairperson,
and Associate Dean. In 1995, he was named the "Administrator of the Year"
by the Ohio Association of Two Year Colleges."
In 1997 Jack was appointed Dean of the University of Akron Wayne College.
He is also Professor of English at Wayne, teaching one class each semester.
His courses include Composition, Poetry Appreciation, and Introduction to
Poetry Writing.
An active writer, Jack has had over 200 poems and a dozen short stories appear
in more than 80 national publications. In 2002 he was awarded the Chaffin Prize
for Fiction from Eastern Kentucky University. He has been nominated for the
Pushcart Prize (recognition for work in literary magazines) three times, and his
book "A Box of Stones" was published in 2004 by Finishing Line Press of
Georgetown Kentucky. His second book, "Apparitions," is due out next year.
Jack is a member of the Board of Goodwill Industries of Wayne and Holmes Counties,
chairperson of the College Is For Me college-access program of Wooster-Wayne County,
chairperson of the Citizens' Review Committee of the Orrville Area United Way, and past President of the Ohio Association of Regional Campus Deans.
