While
The University of Akron encourages arrangement of worthwhile
field trips believed to add substantially to course content,
field trips not listed as an integral part of a course in
the General Bulletin should receive prior approval from the
Office of Academic Affairs.
For
a field trip to be approved, a faculty member must complete
the Field
Trip Request Form (PDF) at least one week prior to the
proposed field trip. This form is available online and in
the mailroom of the Business Office.
Each
student participating in the field trip should be asked to
complete and return an Assumption
of Risk Form (PDF). These forms are available online
and through the Student Services Office.
If
students will miss other classes due to an approved field
trip, they must request permission from their instructors
to miss class. Alternative assignments must be available
for any student that cannot participate in the field trip.
If
a vehicle is needed for a field trip, the instructor needs
to make arrangements to rent a car/van when needed on an
individual basis. For details, please see the Business Office
Manager.
Faculty
conducting course activities beyond scheduled class time
meeting should adhere to the following guidelines:
- Include
activities on course syllabus.
- Not
require attendance that would result in a student missing
another course or obligation. Faculty may have their
students request permission from other instructors for
the absence. In the event of a conflict, alternative
activities must be offered.
- Required
travel request forms (found in the Wayne
College Guide and in the Office of Academic
Affairs) must be submitted well ahead of time and a notice
placed in Common Currency.
- Faculty
should make budget arrangements well in advance with
the approval of the Technical or Area Coordinator, preferably
in establishing the department's budget
