Through a grant from the Holmes County Department of Job & Family Services, the Holmes County Higher Education Center has scholarship money for individuals who qualify for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

HCHEC/Holmes County Senior Series continues with Holmes County History, instructed by
the Holmes County Historical Society. These classes are offered to Holmes County Seniors
for free courtesy of a grant provided by the Holmes County Education Foundation. Classes
will be held at the Holmes County Senior Center on Wednesdays, May 7, 14, 21, and 28

Advanced Leadership Series-Putting Skills into Practice. This class is a series of one-day
training sessions that will last for 5 weeks. You will learn the “soft” leadership skills needed
to implement each step of the project and practice methodolgies of developing and managing
a project from start to finish. The first class is Financial Acumen presented by Arnie Ziroli.
It will be held at the Holmes County Higher Education Center on May 13 from 8 am to 5 pm.

Continuing Education Ethics & Compliance Training Programs this month features Recruiting
and Hiring--A Manager’s Guide to Staying Out of Court. This program addresses the most
common stumbling blocks, including job descriptions, job advertising, interviewing and equal
opportunity concerns. This class will be held at the Holmes County Higher Education Center
on Wednesday, May 21 from 1 to 4 pm. For further information please call 330-674-2514.
Continuing Education Computer Classes: Windows XP Beginning. This class opens the doors
to using various features of your computers. It will help you manage your files; work with
folders; and use navigation features, dropdown menus and dialogue boxes. Understanding
the “Help” function, as well as working in more than one window, will give you computer
skills to use in any software application. You will also learn about shortcuts and Web
integration features. This class will be held at the Holmes County Higher Education Center
on Tuesday, May 13 from 9 am to 4 pm. Beverages and snacks will be provided. For more

Word Beginning-this introductory class will help you learn how to create, save, edit and print
documents; move and copy text; format paragraphs and documents; use fonts and proofing
features; and find and replace text. This class will be held at the Holmes County Higher
Education Center on Tuesday, May 27 from 9 am to 4 pm. Beverages and snacks will

Grant Writing Workshop will be held here at the Holmes County Higher Education Center
on May 28 from 8:30 am to 4 pm. This workshop will be taught by Dr. Brenda Haas, she
is the Executive Director of OACHE. (Ohio Appalachian Center for Higher Education).
Because of the generous sponsorship of OACHE, we are able to offer this workshop at the
nominal fee of $35 to cover class materials and lunch. Agenda topics will be Grant Funding;
Researching Potential Donors; Past Successful Grant Applications; The Proposal; Development
of Cover Letter; and Search for Grant Sites. Seating is limited so register as soon as possible.

The University of Akron Wayne College has offered credit courses at
various locations in Holmes County and has had many businesses participate
in workforce development programs. After consulting with area corporations
and public leaders, Wayne College has decided to invest in a permanent
facility that will bring higher education resources directly into the
community to better serve Holmes County citizens.
