The Wayne College Library has adopted The University of Akron Libraries Acceptable Behavior Policy. All library users (students, staff, faculty, and community members) and library staff are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with this policy on acceptable behavior. Library users are also expected to abide by directives of the library staff. Users who violate this policy on acceptable behavior may be referred to Campus Police.

Acceptable Use of Library Computer Workstations Policy:
The Wayne College Library offers access to information resources, including unrestricted Internet access, on all library workstations. The library workstations are provided to assist in carrying out the goals of The University of Akron Wayne College and the Wayne College Library. All users of library workstations are required to abide by The University of Akron Interim Policy on Access and Acceptable Use of University Computer and Informational Resources and all University of Akron Information Technology Policies.
The computer workstations in the library are to be used primarily for library research. Computer workstations are also available in the Library Lab and throughout Wayne College. Printing from Wayne College computers is free.

Food & Beverage Policy:
Light snacking (no meals, please) and beverages with lids are permitted in the table areas of the library. No food or beverages are permitted in the Library Lab, Community Room (Library Reading Room), near computers, or in the shelving areas of the library.

Lost and Found Policy:
The library does not maintain a Lost and Found. In the event that an item is found in the library, the item will be taken up to the Student Services Office where it can be identified and claimed by the owner. If the Student Services Office is closed, the item will be taken the following morning.

An item will be considered "Lost" by the library staff if it has been left unattended for a long period of time (several hours) or left in the library at closing. High-theft items may be turned into Campus Police sooner at the discretion of the library staff.

The library staff will not attempt to identify the owner of any articles left in the library. Identification will be performed by the Campus Police Officer on duty or by Student Services staff.

The library staff will abide by the following guidelines regarding specific items:

  • Floppy disks:

  • Floppy disks left in the computers in the library or library lab will be placed in the orange "Lost Disk" box in the library lab. Library staff do not open the documents on the disks or contact the owners if there is identification on the disks. It is up to the owner of the disk to retrieve them from the box. All disks left in the "Lost Disk" box will be recycled at the end of each semester.

  • CD-ROMs and DVDs:

  • CD-ROMs and DVDs left in the computers in the library and library lab will be taken to the Lost and Found in the Student Services Office.

  • High-theft items or items likely to contain personal or confidential information (including laptops, personal organizers, keys, purses, wallets, book bags, calculators, zip disks, and USB flash drives):

  • These items will be briefly (one hour or less) held at the circulation desk to see if the owner comes back to claim them. The items will then be turned into the Campus Police Officer on duty for safe keeping until claimed by the owner.

    Photocopy and Printing Policy:
Photocopies may be made at the library copier for $.07 per page. The photocopier in the library accepts Zip Cards only. Community members can purchase a courtesy Zip Card for $1.00. Printing from the library’s computers and microfiche printers is free.

    Group Study Room Policy:
    1. The Library's group study rooms' primary purpose is to offer space for groups ranging from 2 to 6 individuals to engage in group conversation, video viewing, or group study on a walk-in basis. Unless other arrangements have been made, the library's group study rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.
    2. Single users of group study rooms are allowed, but will be asked to move to another location in the library if all rooms are occupied and a group requires its use.
    3. Patrons needing to preview a video will be given priority over other group study room users. If the rooms are filled when a patron needs to view a video, any single user may be asked to move to another location in the library. If all rooms are filled with groups, the group with the smallest number of people will be asked to move to another location while the patron views the video.
    4. Should a group require a special reservation, a member of the group should fill out a Library Group Study Room Reservation Form and turn it in at the Circulation Desk.
      • Reservations will be accepted for groups only, not individuals.
      • Group Study Rooms may be reserved 1 to 7 days in advance.
      • Reservations may be made for blocks of time ranging from one to three hours.
      • Reservations should start and end on the hour or half hour.
      • Reservations will not be held if the group does not show up during the first 15 minutes of the reserved block of time.
      • If a reservation needs to be cancelled, notify the Circulation Department as soon as possible.
    5. When no people are in a group study room the room will be considered vacant. Personal items or library materials should not be left unattended for any length of time, even with the door closed. When items are left unattended in a group study room they will be treated as "lost" items in accordance with the library's Lost and Found Policy. The library is not responsible for items left unattended in the library.
    6. Every effort should be made to ensure that other library users are not disturbed by the conversations in the group study room.
    7. Group study room users should abide by the Library's Food and Beverage Policy.
    8. Groups wishing to use a white board should only use library-approved markers. Markers are available at the Circulation desk.
    9. When a group finishes using a room, the room should be straightened. Please discard any garbage, clean the white board, and return all Library furniture to its proper places.

    Wayne College Library Display Policy:

    Purpose
Displays in the library will focus on academic, social, and artistic themes of interest to the college and the community. Whenever possible, they will include references to actual library materials or resources available through the OhioLINK system.

    Requests for approval / submission
College faculty, staff, and organizations and classes represented by an academic adviser may apply to use library display areas and cases by submitting the proper form to the Display Coordinator. Applications will be reviewed and approved by the Display Coordinator. Requests will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Every attempt will be made to accommodate the preferred display date. Requests should be made as far in advance as possible, preferably 60 days. The party requesting scheduling is encouraged to work directly with the library’s contact person, to ensure optimal exposure of display items and their safety.

    Duration of displays
The duration of displays will be limited to approximately 30 days.

    Liability
The library will not be responsible for the materials placed on display nor will the library be responsible for the safety of the items. Although the plexiglas display cases are difficult to open, they are located in public access areas which cannot be officially monitored or protected (24x7) against theft or vandalism.

    Appropriateness of subject matter
Parties planning displays should strive for objectivity within an instructional or informational theme. Materials of a controversial or discriminating nature may be refused. The library manager will have final say as to the appropriateness of the subject matter.

    Posters and flyers
Posters and supporting literature such as flyers must be approved also.

    Set up and Take down
With the exception of a few basic items, such as scotch tape and bookends, the library will not provide supplies or equipment necessary to display items. All wall mounted materials will be affixed by the Display Coordinator. Set-up and teardown of displays will be done with the assistance of the coordinator.

    Complaints concerning display materials
Complaints concerning displays should be made to the Manager of Library Services. Complaints will be addressed in a timely manner.

    Wayne College Library Donation Policy:

The resources of the Wayne College Library have been developed over the years through careful selection, guided by our collection development policy.

The Wayne College Libraries accept gifts of books and other library materials with the understanding that, upon receipt, Wayne College becomes the owner of the materials. The Library staff will select materials for inclusion into the library's collection based on present and future value to our students, faculty, and staff, and on their condition. We reserve the right to handle materials as we feel will best serve Wayne College. Any materials received may be added to the collection, exchanged, given to other libraries, discarded or sold.

The Library will not accept restricted donations.

While we may be able to assist in finding more appropriate locations for donations, the Library does not accept donations of the following materials:

          • large collections of materials
          • condensed books
          • magazines or newspapers
          • software
          • LP recordings
          • lab manuals or workbooks
          • textbooks designated as samples or evaluation / review copies
          • any books that are dated, in poor condition, or containing highlighting or markings

Small gifts, usually one box or less, may be delivered directly to the Library circulation desk. Arrangements for the delivery of larger gifts should be made by contacting the Manager of Library Services at (330) 684-8951 or mlerch@uakron.edu.

Any list of donated items must be completed by the donor in advance of the donation. All material gifts to the Library are considered non-cash charitable donations. Donors may wish to consult their tax advisor or review the tax code regarding charitable donations on the Internal Revenue Service's website.

The College may acknowledge gifts by letter, but it does not itemize, assess the value of, or provide a receipt for the gift.

Please know that the Wayne College Library greatly appreciates your support. Beyond books and materials, the Library accepts monetary donations on behalf of the Library.
